Horley Royal British Legion Commemorates 80th Anniversary of D-Day Landings
The Horley branch of the Royal British Legion held a poignant service to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. This significant event, which honour’s the bravery and sacrifice of those who participated in the Normandy landings during World War II, brought together the community in a solemn and respectful gathering.
A Solemn Service at the War Memorial
The commemorative service took place at the War Memorial on Brighton Road, a site of great historical importance and remembrance for the local community. The service was conducted by the Reverend Leslie Wells, whose thoughtful words and prayers honoured the memory of those who served during the D-Day operations.
The Redhill Corps of Drums provided the musical accompaniment. Their performances underscored the solemnity of the occasion, evoking a deep sense of respect and gratitude for the sacrifices made 80 years ago.
There was also participation of pupils from Oakwood School, who delivered heartfelt readings. Their involvement demonstrated the importance of passing down the legacy and lessons of D-Day to younger generations. Our Pathfinders also displayed great behaviour.
